Privacy Policy

Game data on your device. HoopDegrees stores game progress, statistics, and preferences locally in your browser. You do not need to create an account to play. Clearing HoopDegrees’ site data in your browser may reset your saved progress and preferences.

Gameplay information. We collect and store gameplay information, including total guesses, accuracy, sessions played, and timestamps, to understand how the game is used.

These server-side records are aggregated. Site-wide counters such as total games played and total guesses, and the per-player and per-college correct/incorrect counts behind our statistics pages, are stored as running totals with no link to a browser, session identifier, IP address, or any other identifier. We do not collect or store IP addresses, device identifiers, or fingerprints ourselves, and we do not run analytics software that profiles individual players.

Optional leaderboard names. You may choose to provide a display name for the leaderboard. This name is not linked to a registered account, but it may appear publicly alongside your score. Please use a nickname and avoid including your full name, email address, or other personal information.

Messages and feedback. If you email us, we receive your email address and any information you include in your message. We use this information to respond to your questions or feedback.

HoopDegrees uses browser storage to remember game data and preferences. The items we save in your browser are your game progress and personal statistics, your Timed Trials and Champions Mode statistics, and your light or dark theme choice. These stay on your device and are not read back to us.

The site itself does not set tracking cookies and does not use analytics tools. However, a Google advertising script is loaded on our pages, and Google may set cookies and use identifiers when that script runs, even though HoopDegrees does not currently display advertising slots of its own. We have not yet added a cookie consent banner, and we are reviewing whether one is needed; in the meantime you can block or clear cookies and site data through your browser settings, which may affect features such as saved progress and preferences.

HoopDegrees is built using Lovable, which hosts the site and provides its database (Lovable Cloud). Providers supporting the site may process technical information needed to host, maintain, and secure it, such as server logs that can include IP addresses, browser and device details, and timestamps. Those logs are handled by our hosting provider rather than collected by us, and we do not use them to identify individual players.

Player photos and team logos are loaded from third-party sources (ESPN’s image CDN and Sports Logos), so your browser contacts those services when a page displays an image. The Google advertising script described above is served by Google. These providers operate data centres in multiple locations, so information may be processed outside Canada, including in the United States and Europe.

We accept optional donations through Buy Me a Coffee to help keep HoopDegrees available.

Buy Me a Coffee and its payment providers handle information associated with donations under their respective privacy policies; their policy is available at buymeacoffee.com/privacy. We do not receive or store your payment card details, and we cannot access the account information you give Buy Me a Coffee. What we can see is the public support feed that Buy Me a Coffee shows for our page, which may include the name or message you choose to attach to a donation. Donations are kept in your Buy Me a Coffee account records under their retention terms, not ours.

We do not sell personal information or share it with advertisers or sponsors. HoopDegrees does not currently display advertising.

Information may be processed by providers supporting the site or handling donations, as described above. Display names and scores submitted to public leaderboards may be visible to other visitors.

We may also disclose information where required by applicable law.

Locally saved game data remains in your browser until it is cleared by you or your browser.

Leaderboard entries are kept from the time you submit them until you ask us to remove one; the daily and monthly boards you see are time-filtered views of the same records, not separate copies. Aggregated gameplay counters and the per-player and per-college statistics are not tied to you and are kept indefinitely so the statistics pages stay accurate. Feedback emails are kept only as long as needed to reply and to keep a record of the exchange. Backups of the database are managed by our hosting provider on its own schedule; we do not retain separate donor records beyond what is described above.

You can play without creating an account and choose whether to provide a leaderboard name.

You can remove locally stored game information by clearing HoopDegrees’ site data in your browser. This does not remove information already stored on our servers or submitted to a leaderboard.

To ask about information we hold, request a correction, or request deletion, email hoopdegrees@gmail.com. Because HoopDegrees does not use registered accounts, we may need details about your request to locate the relevant information and verify that it relates to you. We may be unable to identify gameplay records that are not linked to you.

HoopDegrees is intended for a general audience and does not require an account or ask players to provide their age.

Players should avoid entering personal information in leaderboard names. If you believe a child has submitted personal information that should be removed, contact hoopdegrees@gmail.com.

We may update this policy as HoopDegrees develops. If we introduce features such as email sign-ups, additional analytics, or advertising, we will update this policy to explain any changes in how information is handled and provide any required notices or consent choices.
